pics from yesterday

daneby Jun 24, 2008 10:58 PM

My cousin took me & my son to his father in laws place near Lewistown, MT yesterday to do some herpin, & man was it a beautiful place. We got some shots of bulls, racers, a red sided garter, painted turtle, & a prarie rattler, but walking through the awesome habitat was by far the best part of the trip. Enjoy!

Gravid red sided

This guy & the rattler were found on the way home

Thanks for looking,
Dan Eby

WOW Dan! Great pics, great scenery/habitat, looks like great weather, and I still can't believe how green it is! I dig the snake high rises and the garter was really nice! Thanks for poting, keep up the good work!

Thanks Todd,
The weather was great, about 80f. Its always nice to find out about new areas like that. We only had about 6 hours to walk the area, but I hope to go back soon & spend alot more time. I'm sure there is alot more to find there. Thanks for the compliments!

Dan,incredible photography!!! Very cool pics! The rattler looks like a gravid female maybe? Is it windy up there alot because it's windy here alot? Just wondering whether the wind has any effect on finding more or less herps in your area. Kevin

Hows it going Kevin, I hope you are finding a ton of stuff this season. I thought that rattlesnake looked gravid too. Its been a little windy, but not too bad. The only way the wind effects me finding herps is I have to rely on sight only, cant hear snakes in the grass when its blowing hard.
Thanks for the compliments!

Thanks and greetings from France!

Dramatic Western U.S. landscapes make us Europeans dream since we discovered them in motion pictures.

Are those green flaviventris particular to the Northwestern part of the range, or are they found any/elsewhere?

All the best,

Benjamin.

Thanks,

I'm not sure how green the racers are in other states, but here in MT there are alot of green populations. Theres also some areas with some nice light gray ones, and some are just brown.
