200 gram milestone :D

FunkyRes Jun 25, 2008 02:26 AM

My '07 Abbott's weighed in at precisely 200g today

Not a truly accurate measurement of here "actual" weight - as she had her first adult mouse meal yesterday (previously feeding upon weanlings) so her weight will go down next time she poops, but it's the first time she's shown 200g on the scale.

I'm hoping to breed her in '09 - I think she's easily going to make the 250g mark that I decided I would use (of course a healthy 250, not obese 250) by brumation, it wouldn't surprise me if she hit the 300 that others go by.

I'm also becoming more and more satisfied with her color - initially I was a little disappointed, put her next to my male '06 and his orange base color was vivid orange, hers more of a yellow - but hers is turning more orange day by day and starting to match his.

Hopefully by about this time next year, I'll be bragging about her pippies :D

That's April 29

That's her this morning, natural sunlight diffused by Northern California wild fire smoke.

...I love Okeetees! Morphs are cool but nothing compares to the way nature intended.

i know this is a little off topic, but you said the photo was diffused from the smoke from Cali. I was just wondering if you've heard about the fire in Nc and VA? I've heard about both.. well, i only learned about the NC fire when i stepped outside one day and thought OMG a fire!!! it smells like electrical burning somewhere. called the fire dept and a wildlife park at the nc/va border is on fire. Still burning after a few weeks.... The news here in VA just recently told us about the fires in cali. Just wondering if bad news travels fast or slow..... hehe sweet looking critter by the way!!!

I live about 150 miles west of the fires in eastern NC and we had a couple days where I live where the smoke was pretty bad. It's the first time I've ever gotten a taste of what it must be like living in California much of the time.

No - I hadn't heard about those fires yet.
The fires this year aren't as bad as few years ago, but they may ruin my 4th plans - little brother is suppose to come up, but he has respiratory issues, so he can't if the air is still smokey.

We were going to head up into the mountains on the 3rd to look for Rubber Boas (doubtful we'd find any - wrong time of year and no rain, but the bonding of the hunt is always worth it) and I doubt that can happen now.

FUNKY- sorry about your plans... that always stinks when family plans get ruined. My family isnt the get together and do stuff type. we barely call eachother. so cherish what you have!! i'm jealous!!!

and NC person. I live in richmond, VA and we get a few days where its terrible visibility and it smells terrible!!! Mostly in the AMs and all day on fridays for some reason... i feel bad about the poor animals.... i heard it was an animal park... yeah. now i know how Cali people feel... its hard enough to breathe when its hot, but the smoke makes it worse... Hopefully some rains come soon and put them all out.... Maybe water from the states under water could evaporate real fast.... i know i know.. i'm dreaming, but wouldnt it be great!?!?!
