Productive morning, fieldwise!

Well, this morning on my favorite municipal Bike & Hike trail, I encountered two ratsnakes in the same area, minutes apart.
The first was something that looked suspiciously like a yellow ratsnake. I assume it was an orange morph Texas though ( unless someone released a Yellow.). Actually, my first thought was a bairdi. But that is plain crazy, too far out of range.
When I came back the same way 5-9 minutes later, I encountered a huge Texas Ratsnake ( a male..) trying to follow the other one. Not aggressive or vicious, we just eyeballed each other for a few minutes until he rememberd he had things to do. At least 5 ft long. but I don't know if that is really large for this race of obselata. What a great bike ride!

Frank,

Yeah! I hadn't even expected to see a herp yesterday, as the wind had been blowing like crazy & earlier on the trail there had been much human foot-traffic. I'm kicking myself for not bringing a camera. Maybe someone could identify the first snake. If it wasn't a linderheimi, I might have glimpsed my first wild Bullsnake. But then, my first Texas rat, had stripes as well as blotches. And the big boy yesterday would have been a natural for his photo. I'm debating trying to ride out there in a bit at dusk, but I'm pretty tired from work..

Got skunked! LOL. Oh well, I did find an earth snake & see a Southern Prarie lizard. But no big snakes. Maybe I should leave my Samsung behind next time.

Unfortunately, not a ratsnake. I did get a pic or two of a nice Rough Grren snake. Well, at least I wasn't skunked. When the memory on the camera is full, I'll post some pics.
