What do you make of this guy?

boachris Jun 25, 2008 03:36 PM

Hey all,
I had a litter at the begining of May. It was a pastel X normal pairing. Most of the babies came out looking like nice normals, but I had one oddball. Just curious what you all think of him. He almost looks hypo. Just weird that 1 in 29 babies would look like him.
Here he is a couple of days ago:

Here is his tail. Hard to capture the color:

And here is a sibling for comparison:

Thanks for looking and any input!

kind of looks like an extreme pastel...

looks like all the pastel genetics went over to him and skipped over most siblings, if there's that much difference...

would be interesting to see what it can make 8)

Thanks for the reply. I kind of thought I was being shunned..LOL. From what I read, you're the guy to know about pastels!
Do you think he should darken with age, or will he get more color? I would love to see him keep the orange in his tail. Do you have any good ideas for what to pair him with someday?
Thanks again,
Chris

He really shouldn't darken with age, that's the best part... He should actually get lighter and then brighter and should even look light as a large adult. That's what real pastels do.

What to do is up to you... might want to figure out how the genes work.

Maybe you breed him to a normal female and you get all pastels, somewhat between the look of him and mom.

Maybe you get something even more extreme! That's the fun part!

Good thing is you have lots of time to think about it.
