Whatever happened to searching in ONLY the corn snake forum? (gripe)

Taceas May 23, 2003 02:02 PM

When I type something to search for, I want to search the corn snake forum only.

I don't care about anacondas, baird's rat snakes, pythons, or chameleons or whatever else I turn up. How inconvenient to have to search through 50 things that aren't what I'm looking for.

Ya know...when I hit 'Back' after reading an individual post, & I load the forum page again...& each & every time, I have to scroll BACK down to where I left off reading messages. Gets really annoying when I'm catching up a few days in a busy forum, like corn snake or bearded dragon, & I have to scroll halfway down the page each time, to take up where I left off.

works OK for me using the backspace key or back button. If I click back to Corn Snakes Link however it will start at top of list.

That you should first SEARCH a forum to see if your question has been asked, and THEN ask it if you cannot find the answer. mostly people don't mind the same ol same ol questions, but I have found the search feature to be VERY helpful! I have eggs that just reached day 32... (URGH!) and in hopes of staving off that non-glacial IMpatience, I wanted to search the past archives and check out kingsnake and cornsnake "hatchling" pics and stories from years gone by! But darnitall... learning about a burmese python's hatchlings, whilst interesting, doesn't do it for me. The search feature was one of the greatest features of the forums, and I hope they give it back.

Speaking of forums, I thought there was a "feedback/gripe" type forum but couldn't seem to find it so I could say this all in the "appropriate" forum.

I was looking for recommended humidity within the incubation container for incubating corn snake eggs. And of course, reading about animals that aren't corn snakes doesn't help me much.

Right now the temp/humidity within my incubation containers is around: 81F/98% (give or take a little). It's been this constant for over a week now.

Just wanting to know if that's a good or bad reading. =)

I too have a few more gripes about the new system, but no place to post them too. I'm getting used to things now, but there are a few idiosyncrasies that get under my skin every now and then. Another gripe for another day perhaps. =P

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like you got it in control. Good luck.

That information was provided to the members in the numerous 'forum re-launch' messages I posted on all of the species forum immediately prior to the re-opening of the new forums. On the old forums I even went so far as to specifically encourage everyone to read that information here so that they would know *where* to find the help they might need in regards to the new forums. If you did not read the message back then as was suggested, maybe now would be a good time.

This is that message I posted on the Corn Snake Forum here:

In addition, on the main forum index for kingsnake.com there is always available the "Feedback & Help Area" link where you can find a series of help topics as well as a link for submitting feedback by email if none of the other help topics answer your questions.

The "Search by Content" option had to be completely rebuilt in order to keep the "speed" of searches up and the load on the server down. It was one of those things that caused the really bad slowdowns on the forums back in February. That is why there is no option to search content in the individual forum versus all forums. Those searching can refine their searches using the + and - options, much like one would have to do at any of the search engines out there on the 'net.

Right now the search catalog is updated once a day and is built upon 3 variables:

1) Message Content (eliminating words under 4 letters)
2) Topic/Subject
3) Username who entered the post
