RAPTOR questions

Crazygecko Jun 25, 2008 09:24 PM

I have a couple questions about RAPTORS if anyone is able to answer thanks in advance.

I was thinking of picking up a RAPTOR male to breed to my blazing blizard female and the lizard I found that I realy like is listed as a raptor but the discreption is a red eye reverse stripe with 2 snake eyes.
My question is, is that a raptor or a het for raptor?

My second question is, if I breed the two together what would the off spring be? het for raptor or double het for raptor/blazing blizard or something else totaly?

Thanks in advance.

If the advertised animal is also albino then it is a raptor. Keep in mind the eclipse gene is variable and sometimes is expressed as "snake eyes" where half of each eye pigment is missing. Assuming that your raptor and your blazing blizzard are of compatible strains of albinism when bred together all offspring will be albino het for blizzard and eclipse. The pain in the ass is that when you breed the offspring together the blazing blizzard hatchlings with missing eye pigment aren't necessarily homozygous for the eclipse gene since varying amounts of pigment can be missing on blizzards without the eclipse gene. The only way to guarantee that a blizzard is also an eclipse is when both of the parents are homozygous for eclipse. When you think about the long term plan to make diablo blancos it takes a couple generations and lots of holbacks and possible hets
