Snake AWOL?

Orocosos Jun 25, 2008 11:00 PM

Is it just me or have the snakes in western NC been scarce lately? The only snakes I've found have been worm snakes and one northern black racer. Sadly, there have been no rat snakes...

I didn't get pics of the racer, but here's some of the worm snake.

And some Desmognathus ochrophaeus from the Blue Ridge Parkway. I found 3 within four feet of each other. All were about 2-3 inches long.

D. ochrophaeus #3 - this one didn't want to pose

Thanks for looking!

u know of any good places to see rattlesnakes?

Orocosos Jun 26, 2008 07:39 PM

Personally...no. I've never been looking for rattlesnakes. Even rat snakes outsmart me...

Sorry I can't be of more help.
