Hello Field Herping forum. I believe this is my first post in this section although I have been on kingsnake since its inception.
I have been lucky enough to take a position doing environmental surveys for proposed wind energy projects across the great state of texas. I am a long time Texas herper, but am being sent to parts of the state that I am unfamiliar with. My overall work area is between Fort Stockton; Lubbock/Plainview/Floydata; Wichita Falls; and Fort Worth… while the majority of my herping experience is between San Antonio, Sanderson, and South Padre Island.
I have recently spent some time in Pecos County near Fort Stockton where I am seeing lots of western coachwhips, western diamondbacks, longnosed snakes, Kansas? Glossysnakes, Sonoran Gophersnakes (bullsnakes?) and one beautiful mottled rock rattlesnake. I am about to be spending a few days in Floyd, Pecos, and Throckmorton Counties and I would like to know if anyone has good sites for field herping in these areas. Any suggestions will be appreciated and I can post photos of what I find.
You can E-mail me directly if you don’t want to share your locations with the world wide web. I am a masters level biologist with a profound respect for nature. I do not collect these animals; Just admire them and take a few snapshots. I do not flip rocks or disturb habitat, I just hike around and observe. I will check coverboards if there any on the property.
You can also reach me on my cell phone.
Thanks and happy herping…
