Albino Strain Compatibility

boachris Jun 26, 2008 03:45 AM

I am curious if the Kahl and Sharp albino genes are compatible. What would the result be if breeding a het Kahl to a Sharp or het Sharp albino be?
Is this frowned upon for any reason? Also, does this change when combined with other genes such as hypo for DH sunglows?
Thanks again,
Chris

As of now they are incompatable for Albino.

However I am curious to see if anyone has ever breed a Kahl to a Sharp producing what would be Double Het's and cross the offspring. We know Sharp and T are compatable.

To answer your question as far as we know right now only Normal Boa's would result, in the cross between Kahl and Sharp.

"Also, does this change when combined with other genes such as hypo for DH sunglows?"

If you are planning on breeding at this time you need to ensure you have matching traits. IE Kahl Albino crossed with any Het must ensure the Het is Het for Kahl, and vice versea for Sharp. Its typical community practice that anything with Sharp has the name in the trait. IE DH Sharp Sunglow.

Cheers

Okay, here we go again as far as anyone knows Sharps and Kahls aren't compatible! I don't know of any breeding between the two, but this is the current idea carried throughout the hobby!

Sharps and VPI Caramel T Positives aren't compatable either! Tracy produced a litter this year that resulted in all normal appearing babies that are both Heterozygous for Sharp and The VPI Caramel!

I have personally produced both strains of albinos and just seeing the difference in them at birth and the result coming from the Paradigm projects leads me to strongly believe that Kahls and Sharps truly aren't compatable!

Thanks all, for the clarification. It's amazing to think that breeding two albino snakes could produce all normal DH babies.
And to further clarify, if something is not stated as "Sharp" it is assumed to be Kahl?
Thanks again,
Chris

Yes, if something is not stated as "Sharp" it is assumed to be Kahl? There are MANY more Kahl's slithering around since Pete was much more proactive in making and marketing them.
