Longicauda question

lateralis Jun 26, 2008 12:14 PM

are longis late breeders? and do they typically drop their babies late as well? I have a female that is passing day 105 and has still not dropped, she is big as a house still but this will be her first litter.
thanks

yes they tend to be a spring breeder and for me at least they start breeding in late January early February. mine average about a 114 days POS. so they run just a tad longer then most boas. I'm pacing myself my girl is at 103 days POS and i just can't wait in longer I'm going insane! this is the boy i used he is my normal hyper het for anery and i breed him to his older anery sister. so hopeful I can Reproduce some hypers this year. it won't really answer the question if it's a dom gene or a receive because the female is a pos het for hyper (sibling) but if there are no hypers then i bet it's receive and she doesn't have the gene. good luck with your girl keep me posted.

I REALLY hope that breeding produces great results for you. That is one of the best looking boas I've ever seen, of any type!

It's a longicauda, but it's pretty close isn't it!

Thanks Micah, I remember you saying something about day 105 so I thought I would ask again, so maybe she will be a few days later, I am just worried because I am going out of town in 4 days and will be gone for about a week. If she drops them while I am gone, will they be toast? Should I put extra water in with her, ask my house sitter to try and move them to a separate container? I just dont want to loose this litter due to not being here.

thanks

they should be ok for a couple days with out any problems. but an extra water bowl is a good idea. I would also remove any hide boxes so they don't get crushed when they all try and hide in there. I would also put a good 3 or 4 inch layer of aspen bedding in there so they can hide and it will give them some cushioning if she climbs over them.
