Hi all,
When you have stacks of Vision Cages and are trying to breed just a few select animals based on time of year, subspecies, etc., try the following. It allowed me to keep several subspecies in the same room without manipulating the room temperature.
I always moved the animals I wanted to breed to the top of the rack/stack. At night place a tray of ice cubes (start with two cubes and increase the number every other day until you are using a full tray) on top of the cage that houses the pair (or more) that you want to reproduce. Leave the DTH normal to offset the NTL. In the morning refreeze the tray for use again that night. It will not take long to drive the males crazy. Stop when you see an end to copulation/or female ovulation. It worked for longicauda, amarali and several other imperators. I never had to worry about the animals I was not trying to breed as they got their turn on top of the rack/stack when it was their time of season. I never had an animal develop a cold using this method.
