Tease feeding worked but........

wizbang Sep 02, 2003 09:13 AM

To my surprise, tease feeding worked with the last two non-feeders from my first clutch ever. It was actually neat to have the hatchlings eat while still in my hand.

However, when I put in food yesterday, they were both back to showing no interest. I tried to create some false movement to stimulate their drive but no go.

The others (that I still have) are piggos. These two just don't seem into eating.

Question: 1)If you've had luck tease feeding, how long after the first time did you have to keep tricking the hatchlings?

2) Just in your opinion, how long till I turn them over to someone with kings? Not to be a jerk, but with all their hatch-mates doing so great, I'm not confident these 2 are ment to be anyway. Not giving up yet, but not messing with them too much longer either. BTW they hatched over 5 weeks ago.

before using them for kingsnake food, i would offer them 'good to a free home' but make it clear what has to be done to care for them (i.e. tease feed). You might find someone willing to pay for shipping only to get a free snake and with the proper time can turn it into a good pet that feeds regularly on its own. I have a pacific island boa that I still need to assist feed but its working so I am not going to stop, it just sucks b/c it is more convenient to plop a f/t mouse in a cage and walk away. oh well.... corns should change over fairly easy from tease feed to f/t on their own. just my op.

Thanks for the response. I agree.

I'm not that cold. I want them to make it. It's just that it's hard to give them to a novice (which is my plan) in good conscience if I know they are not sturdy specimens. I'm going to work with them for a couple more weeks. Or if anybody reading this is in downstate illinois, you can have em.
