We went for a bike ride on the Virginia Kreeper trail yesterday and found this guy getting some sun on an old train bridge, along with a few deer down by the creek.

Maybe she was under the bridge waiting for him. He went down under the bridge shortly after the second pic was taken.

Very nice find. I've ridden that trail before but never saw a snake. Did you ride up and down or just down. I always cheat and take a bus up and coast down the hill. LOL.

Dave the three of us started in Damascus and rode up to White Top and can I tell you it was much easier coming down, but you already knew that.

Rusty much of the trail is in the shade and we got an early start, so it was nice and cool for most of the ride.

Looks like a nice ride.... man I wish I had some 'creeks' down here! Gotta get up to the Smokies here soon... likely the end of July but it can't get here fast enough! Appreciate the enticing pics Joe!

I was just up your way (Wilkes Co. NC)yesterday with my son. Found a an eastern garter, worm snake, and a couple dor coppers. Found some nice sites to revisit in the fall when it's cooler.

Have you found any eastern milks in Wilkes Co.?

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Most of what we have found have been Black Rats and Kings, but we did find one Eastern on the Northern end of the county, where we also found some Copper Heads.

I have spent a good deal of time in the Brushy's looking for them, but haven't turn one up yet. My wife found "a baby corn snake" under a rock a few weeks ago that escaped down a hole before I got there. I believe an eastern milk is more likely than a corn in that area.

I did manage to find a mole king at the foot of the Brushy's this spring and a couple of scarlet snakes in April '07. I'm attaching a photo of one of the scarlets.

I'm just a couple of counties away (Catawba) if you ever want to meet up. I would love to see some of those crazy hondos in person.

Thanks,
Michael
