Hooknose husbandry any help?

belikn Jun 27, 2008 02:43 PM

Just joined this site and will post many reptiles I find here in Belize.Found these in my yard yesterday. the first I belive is a Ficimia publica. which I intend to keep because it is so tame and if I let it go the locals will kill it(gets grouped with the coral snake, my gardener is scrared to death of it he cant belive I handle it). The small snake I have yet to ID , maybe a sm breed or a juv. thanks for any help. I also have a 6 ft Central American Boa I rescued and plan to take far into the bush so its safe. Any snake people see here is killed, so by keeping some I hope to educate the locals. Which may be imposible but I can try.

I would guess that Ficimia publia has a diet similar to F. streckeri which means it is mostly insectivorous.

Your unknown snake looks like Adelphicos quadrivirgatus to me, but that's only a slightly educated guess.

Spiders and large ants have been working well. Haven't found a scorpion small enough to feed it yet.
