Real deal, real dead, real sad

CrimsonKing Jun 27, 2008 05:03 PM

I was up in the Apalachicola area a month or so ago looking for anything that slithers and of course my target would've been a nice patternless Apalachicola king snake..
Didn't happen..

O.K.... so after getting a call the other night with a report of this find and a description over the phone, I was compelled to meet up with B.Assetto and J.Edwards today to take a look for myself...
Bob says they straddled the live snake only to have the truck behind them hit it...
It's just too bad, but proof I guess that they do exist.

and an almost solid belly color..

Ouch. Road death is such a waste.

was it on a road where the driver could have easily avoided hitting the snake or was it one of those unavoidable things?

Not real sure Howie. I mean, Bob said they straddled it first, did a U-turn and then watched as the trucker mashed it.
Not easy (or smart) to quickly turn the wheel of a big rig..One of the 18 tires is likely to hit the animal anyway I guess..

That's a drag! It seems like its always the really cool stuff that gets steamrolled, not that any snake getting steamrolled is alright. Someone posted a smoking greyband that got squished on the greyband forum last week. Kevin
