5.0 repti sun uv and a 75 w zoo med heat bulb.the eye is closed shut though. not like a squint.310-775-1334

when you say its shut close, he can't open it at all? or just keeps it closed if left alone? A eye that is sealed shut usually is caused by crust or discharge drying and basically 'gluing' the eye shut.

If he's keeping it closed himself and there is no evidence of 'tearing' or discharge from the eyes, then most likely the light is bothering him. Compact UVB florescent bulbs can harm the eyes of dragons. MVBs hung too low to the basking spot can also cause this.

If its not the light or a dusty substrate...best to take your dragon to a vet to check the eye, especially if he cannot open it himself at all.

lighting is a repti sun uvb5.0and a zoo med 75 heat lamp. the tank is a huge 75 gallon white walled tank with the glass sliders like in the petstore/ i have 4 other dragons in there wich are fine. the eye is closed shut. not opening even when i spray it with a misting bottle. can it really be the light?

YES! Definately. If it is a compact UVB you should turn it off right away!

should i swithcch to thr repitisin 10.0 instead of the .05 uvb? it is a large taanj=k. please help with specifics.

A 5.0 gives UVB penetration to 12" If your dragon is farther away from the bulb than that you need a stronger bulb. A 10.0 gives penetration to 20". So the bulb strength needed depends on your setup.

The bulb problem is not the UVB strength it's the bulb type. The problem is with compact UVB bulbs regardless of 5.0, 10.0 etc. Are you using a compact flourescent bulb?

5.0 is not a good lamp for dragons....use the 8.0 or 10.0. 5.0 is for tropical animals and that lamp is much brighter then the 10.0.
If there is dust in the eye, first boile some water and let it cool down, then use it for cleaning the eye.
good luck!

best wishes,
Michel
