corn snake lethargic; skin dark????

ldobbins Jun 28, 2008 04:16 PM

Our corn snake is 4-5 years old. Energetic until o/a week ago. Skin has turned darker than we've ever seen. Although we don't constantly watch him (lives in daughter's bedroom and she's on vacation), we know he moves somewhat, but has been essentially in the same place for ?2 days? He was hungry and ate a mouse two nights ago. Skin shed recently hasn't been totally clean. He has plenty of clean water.

Any ideas? We're fairly uneducated on snakes (except the nuturing we've gotten here in the past).

This was the first year he noticeably experienced mating season needs.

Finally, late last night I found Twister on the other end of his cage inside his favorite tree trunk. He was very actively watching me as I watched him. I picked him up and he was very energetic. As he still had some shed stuck to him, I soaked him in water and we got the remainder off.

I'm still curious why he turned so dark.....
