Does anyone use tubs for adults

dirtbagrider Jun 28, 2008 10:30 PM

Im wondering if anyone uses tubs(like breeders do for babies), for older dragons. I think I have seen 50 gallon tubs.........is this practical for housing bearded dragons to breed? I know a downfall is that you really cant see the dragons, but the cost for them versus a cage or tank is major, and the ease of cleaning seems great. Any feedback?

I used to use a rubbermaid stock tank. Worked great. I just had to build a top.

That is more important is the floor dimensions of the tub...adult bearded dragons should have at least a 4'x2' of floor space EACH.

If you are breeding them and want to keep them together (not really recommended but some do get along well enough to do it full time), you can keep one male with two or three females...but of course the cage will have to be bigger... 5'x3' is good for three dragons, though bigger will work.

Next you do have to make sure you can heat and light these tubs without burning or warping the plastic...hot plastic could give off toxic fumes..if they get too hot. So hot basking bulbs have to be away from the sides of the tub.
