Did I screw the pooch on this clutch?

daveypythons Jun 29, 2008 10:56 AM

I bred my Fire male to my Mojave female and got a clutch of 4 eggs. I was looking to produce a double het for lucy but I don't think I did. After the first shed I should really be able to tell. Let me know what you think and if I missed out on the odds on these guys or produced a fire mojave.

I can't tell whether you missed or not.. Maybe a belly shot would help? Some mutations are SUBTLE!! Ralph has a Calico Lesser on his 07 birthing record that is only a smidge lighter than the Lesser sib, but the fllames at the belly line gave it a way for sure. Mojaves seem to be subtle when combined with other morphs inn some cases. Belly shots! I hope you hit it.

I don't see any Fire-type head markings, but you're right, lets see some shots after they shed to be sure....

I will get some belly shots tonight because the camera is out of juice. I was checking Ralph's site and his Fire Lesser had a lighter head but it didn't have the usual head markings of a fire so I should be able to tell after they shed. These are kind of some pics of head markings on the fire.

I don't see anything that "says" Fire. That doesn't mean it isn't. Let them shed and go from there. Get as many sets of eyes to look at them as possible. Good luck.

Hey guys........I think you DID! The issue with the fire crosses is that they are not completely obvious at first. When I produced the fire pastels, I DIDNT know I hit it! But there were some differences.....white head like a superpastel (so the spot was NOT visible), and a fire belly (but a mojave has the same belly, so no help there). But after some time, it became more than obvious.......watch these guys, they will change, and change quickly with each shed.....the ones that glow in the dark are the right ones! I think you have two......at least one.......congrats guys!

Hey thanks for the info Brandon. That fire pastel you have is just stunning. I can't wait to see the superpastel fire you produce. That will be unreal.

I was about to recommend what Brandon said, but noticed his post before I replied... I'm far from an expert on the subject, but I'd say before making a call on these, I would certainly wait a few months... give them 2 to 4 months and it will be more than obvious if you hit the combo I bet! Hatchling Fires can be subtle, but they get obvious as they age from what I understand!

Good luck - great combo!

Regards,
Bristen.

Hey Brandon,

what's your guess? The Mojave that is in the center is a cross for sure right? That would be the second from left? The one on the right to that almost looks like a cross too.. I'd guess the one on far left is not a cross? Just curious!

Thanks,
Bristen.

I'm with you on this one....the middle one for sure, and I'm fairly certain the right one is, also.

Thanks Brandon! I had a clutch last year that are almost certainly a new line of Fires... if they are not, they are something very close to it (such as Vanilla's or Spectors)... My Mojave x Fire cross guess was based on what I've seen in my clutch of 7 babies..

ps: Man that pastel x fire is insane! I have a Spider cross male that I hope to breed to a female pastel or two next year.. hoping on Fire Bees! I assume you are already working on that project?

Good luck!
Bristen.
