my husband and i are looking at buying a ball or a burmese soon... we arn't sure wich... but we are leaning towards burmese... however...

the thing i am wondering is this... there is this 7-8 foot burmeses at this kinda shanty pet store down town... it is kept in a tiny box really bad living conditions and not good temps... it has been there for over a year... and i feel bad for it... i asked the other day why and the ladys eyes got real big and she told me he was mean...? ummm ok? so im not into handling my reptiles all that much or my herps but what would you guys think about me getting it to give him a better life? good or no? and if i did get him how big of a deal is this "mean" thing... is that something that would change over time? and what is the price of one of these? oh yeah and its albino if that makes any difference...

Well, a mean 8 foot snake means a trip to the hospitle when you get bit, If i was you, i would go to a show and buy a nice 2 foot C.B albino, but buying a snake b/c you feel sorry for it is about one of the worse things you can do, first the snake will probly need to see a vet, and it may/may not be eating. And it could be loaded down with parasites, But i have never kept burms (hopefuly will some day soon) but i keep about every boa you can think of. Well good luck, keep us posted on what you buy. And hope this doesnt turn out to be like the replys i got.

P.S
Hey, all you other guys, how about you leave this purson alone for once, i dont think alot of you all have tride that!!!

I am not to a big burm person, But here is what I have learned: 1 if he/she is 7-8 ft and has a mean attatitude(sp) then there is most likely no chance of taming it down. So as far as you giving it a better home that would be great of you how ever it would not make a good pet because it is mean. There may be something wrong with it(sick) making it mean. If the pet store has it in a small box then the store itself should be reported to animal control. There is no reason for them to have it a small box. Not healthy for the snake! I bet they haven't been feeding it because I had two small albino burms in a large container and they were a hand full. They have both died this past week. One actually died in the vet's office. We had that one sent to a lab to find out what the problem was. You have to remember that pythons and boas can be sick and not show and signs for months. I would give it great thought before purchasing it. But if you do not get it . please for the snake call your local animal control. Hope this helps and feel free to email me if you have any questions that I can help with.

PS....I paid 250 for the pair and they were babies

first off i want to thank you all for being so nice and kinda about your replys and HELPFUL...

now im gonna see if i can get this all in order lol or ill forget... and thanks boaboy for the last line ( i get that all too well )

i have to agree a bit about adopting this boa because i feel sorry for it isn't the best idea :-S lol im kinda weary about the size and if we have kids soon lol "hunny wheres little jonny??" not good... but then again i would make a habitat for him that would be good out of the way n such... and i would not be buying him for a "true pet" because i know his temper as southerncat pointed out.

secondly i have to say that southern that was a VERY good idea about calling animal control on this pet store i am going to do that for sure THANK you for that idea i know of a few snake rescue farms around here that possibly would take him. so im gonna do that on monday when they are open again.

and southern i am very sorry to hear about your snakes i hope that the rest are doing ok and that they find out what the problem was.

and last but definitly not least Tom, i actually live in bc canada and i saw this pet store in burnaby on east hastings street its owned by an oriental person... and i don't mean to sound horrid or rude at all... but from my experience living in a city "like that" chinease, japanease, korean, philipinio etc are TERRIBLE pet store owners and the animals are extremely unhealthy in very bad conditions and sick as dogs when you take them home, but i am going to do something about this snake i feel horrible for him lol.

and thanks again you guys for being very nice and helpful and boaboy i take it you all have had some issues on this forum in the past? in regards to being civil with replys? don't worry i been there... only reason i ask is because i have a possible solution.

tootles fer now yalls

THANKS
