Pueblan Milksnake food and shedding

St0n3_C0ld Jun 29, 2008 03:53 PM

I got a baby pueblan milksnake bout a month ago. I already have an adult albino california kingsnake and an adult green tree python so this milksnake is not my first snake, but actually my first experience handling with babies. ^^

Okay so here's my problem. Last week he ate just fine, took 2 pinkies actually, but he doesn't wanna eat now, kinda wonder why. Anyway i'm posting his food size (tell me if it's an appropriate size or too big). Also it likes to soak itself in the water dish, no mites sign by the way. Is this the sign of shedding? I have an albino kingsnake and albino opaque shedding eyes look different than the normal one i assume, so i guess i'm kinda unfamiliar with this milk snake (since it's not an albino). So please look at the picture i post and tell me if that's an about to shedding eyes or not. I also heard that this snake is supposed to have pale scales when it's about to shed, i just can't see it, can u guyz see it in the picture. And by the way, is it too skinny or just normal? Thanks a lot ^^

I see the problem too!,......I see the bluish opaque color in it's eyes plain as day, and on the lower sides too. It chowed two big fuzzies for you just last week, so it not wanting any now(especially in shed cycle)is absolutely normal. Some milks eat while in full "blue" stage of their shed cycle, and some absolutely DO NOT,.....it's just the way some individuals are "wired". Two to five days AFTER the eyes clear up again, it will actually shed it's skin. This depends on temps, activity level, how hungry it is, etc...

If it's always in the water bowl, the temps might be a tad too warm(85 or above), or it doesn't have a hide box or two in it's enclosure. Hides are EXTREMELY important to the well-being of milksnakes, and feeling secure is one of THE most important things you need to make sure it has to thrive, or it will always feel exposed in the open, and vulnerable.
