Off-topic(about my dog)

bonomoc08 Jun 29, 2008 08:16 PM

This morning when I went out to feed the dogs, my boxer, Buddy stayed in the dog house and wouldn't come out. When I came home from work, he was still laying in the dog house. I talked him into coming out of the dog house and got a look at him and there wasn't any bite marks on him. He is highly allergic to bees and if he was bitten, he would have swollen up somewhere, but he didn't. I posted on the sulcata forum about my next door neighbor being a crazy animal rights person. She made the comment to me once about how some captive animals may be better off dead than to live their life in captivity. I'm thinking she fed something to him and it had rat poison or something in it. This dog is my child, he is like no other dog. If I yell at him, he looks like he is about to break down and cry. If I could ask a favor, please say a prayer for my friend. If he dies, I don't know what I'd do.

Thanks - Cliff

He's doing alright now, thank God. Its 1:16 and I'm staying up with him all night though! The neighbor told me she poisoned him. And she apologized and said that she hoped he would die quickly so I didn't have to see it. I made it clear to her that if she came into my yard or even said something to me again, she'd pay for it. I don't understand her. She goes, "Well captive animals suffer. They should be put down". I told her no they don't suffer, he's got it made. People like her should be put down in my opinion. She is really sick to go and do something like this, especially since she's got a dog of her own.

So sorry about your dog. In my opinion, you need to prosecute your neighbor. That is a ridiculous way of thinking. I definetely wouldn't wait for a next time. Please call the police. You, as a pet owner, can't EVER trust someone that has admitted to poisoning one of your pets. Good luck.

I would strongly urge you to go to the vet.

Furthermore, you need to keep your animals in the house, and call the cops.

DITTO, DITTO, DITTO!!!

Your animal needs treatment if it has been poisoned, no matter how good it may look now. Also, if you hope to have a case you must need medical proof of the poisoning.

Man, SO sorry to hear about this. I would literally go insane...ever see "Man On Fire"?

StephF Jun 30, 2008 11:37 AM

Ditto on taking your dog to a vet to determine what was given to him, and on contacting law enforcement.
If it were my dog, I would be pressing charges and 'throwing the book' at her right about now, including restraining orders, contacting her landlord if she's a renter, demanding that she pay for vet bills, etc. etc.

LisaOKC Jun 30, 2008 05:28 PM

Uh...You have a RESPONSIBILITY to contact the police about this person. This person is not just a threat to your pets, he or she is a threat to anyone's pet. This was a criminal act.

Hope you took your dog to the vet and the he is ok.

in that order. What kind of dog is it and what could it have possibly done to deserve that?

I'm taking her to court in July. She got pissed off and threatened to release the sulcatas if I try to press charges. I told her that if she releases them, she won't have to worry about me pressing charges, if you know what I mean! The vet told me to shoot him up with benedril(hope I spelled that right) every four to five hours, two teaspoons at a time, and gave me lard to give to him, to flush out his stomach. He's doing alot better now. Hes moving around, and he ate today. He was really dehydrated yesterday, but I got him to the point that he has a pretty good chance of making it

bonomoc08 Jun 30, 2008 11:38 PM

He's doing alot better now. I thought he was going to die last night, but I'm 100% confident now that he's going to make it! The vet took a blood sample today and is going to get the results back in 48 hours. The neighbor wouldn't say what kind of poison was in the meat she gave him. Unfortunately, the neighbor owns her house, and its paid off, so I can't contact any landlord. When I was out remulching the Russian tortoise pen today, she made the comment to me, "Is he going to die? I gave him enough poison to do him in." I warned her that if my dog dies, she's had it.

why does she hate your dog?

Sounds like a good time to put up some type of fencing to protect your yard visually.

I lived in Laurel Canyon, LA. My nextdoor neighbor would send her son over to dump cat feces in our yard when she thought that we weren't home. Then she would call the health dept. We thought she did it because we had taken in the neighborhood stray dog. But she wouldn't talk to us. She quit when we took pictures.
You might want to set up a v. inexpensive security camera.

Nice to hear your dog is doing better.
We have a visiting Rooster that I hate every night, all night long. And I couldn't even bring myself to poison it!

I actually asked her what I did to her to make her hate my dog. I really don't know why she hates my dog, or even if she does hate him. She thinks my animals should be in the wild, including the dogs, the cats, and the box turtles and tortoises. My chihuahuas are bow-legged(which all chihuahuas are) and she thinks they broke their legs or hips or something, and said they are in pain and should probably be put down. I had another chihuahua at my old house and she was really bow-legged. She would have thought I stuck an apple up that one's ass. I never had a problem with her until her brother moved in with her a few months ago, and tried to shoot my burmese python.

kensopher Jul 02, 2008 05:47 AM

Dude, it's time to move. I don't know you, and even I'm worried about you.

mdterp Jul 02, 2008 07:20 AM

You might want to stop posting in this thread. I'm wondering if anything here could be used against you in court. I am worried that she may try and hurt you. And make sure to use any threats she makes to you in court. Oh and don't forget that python thing.

Document what she says, date and time she says anything to you and sign it with your signature. It's a form of a legal log and can be used as evidence in court. Don't threaten her in response to her insane behavior or comments. Don't try and rationalize with people who are NOT rational. It doesn't work.

You are dealing with a very unstable person. What makes her unstable isn't as important as protecting you and your animals from her. Get a good lawyer. The police need to know about this. She may have a history that you are not aware of, and she could easily be dangerous to children as well as pets and adults. She may be unstable enough that the police might dicide she needs to spend some time somewhere else for a while....... I'd have a web cam or something set up to record any suspicious behavior or activity on your property. Can some one come and house sit while you are at work?????

I hope you and all your animals are alright.

Katrina Jul 03, 2008 09:52 PM

DO NOT talk to this person any more without your lawyer present. Do not threaten her. This could be used against you in court.

Make sure you know what your city, county, and state codes are for the animals in your house - if you get involved with the police in any way, you want to make sure YOUR animals are legal, too, in case she tries to make accusations against you. Make sure you're not over any dog limit in the city or county, make sure you don't own any illegal herps (in some cities/counties it's illegal to have a snake over a certain size, or certain species). Make sure you don't own any illegal wild animals. You might have to relocate some of your pets until this blows over.

It concerns me that you mention her son trying to shoot your python - how does he even know you have one, let alone get close enough with a gun? If you're taking the snakes outside, think twice about that - it's frowned upon in most communities, even if it's not illegal, and you want to play the good neighbor. Be very aware of when and where you take the snakes out.

I second a camera of some sort - have a friend stake out in the house while you're gone and take pictures, or get a survalence camera that can record while you're gone.

I brought the snake out and put her in a separate cage outside, while I cleaned the one inside. Thats how he saw the snake. It was her brother that tried to shoot the snake, and he has a more wierd way of thinking than her. He walks around the neighborhood I live in with a bee-bee gun to try and shoot black racers. And the thing is, he complanes that he can't do much walking, except to and from the bathroom. I have four easterns and a Florida box turtle that I'm turning over to a friend of mine temporarily. I was going to let another friend keep the possum for a while, but I have Class III personal posession permit for her, so she's staying at the house.
