Do It Yourself Cage Enthusiasts...

Argentines Jun 30, 2008 01:22 AM

Ok i have a question for you. First is Material. I plan on using that FRB/FBR, whatever its called $29.95 per 4x8 sheet at Home Depot inside the cage. Does wood type really matter as long as all joints are sealed? Maybe MDF, which i have tons at my disposal. Cages wont look to terribly bad but im not to concerned about outward appearence as i am making a cozy lil home for my babys.
Second is HEAT,HEAT,HEAT. I was thinking radiant as a second source. But my Argys love that belly heat. Im wary of putting anything in the cage so my idea is to router out a square and silicone a pc. of glass in. Heat pad under neath with the FRB lining entire inside of cage....Ive been through all the pages of this forum and the cage forum and just so many diff. ways to do it. Im really just at a loss...Any ideas or input would be GREATLY APRECIATED. And as always, thank you in advance...

Ive seen alot with dark bellys, hers is still nice n pink

Always Curious...

This is a link to our fist set of these we built. (Link is just below picture) We have completed three sets now and the only change is that we covered ever inch inside the cage with the fiberglass resin board (plastic shower board) on the inside for easy cleaning.

I did have to let the shower board "gas out" or air out for a few days after we cut it. It works great but has a strong odor for a few days after cutting or sanding.

Good luck.

I was hoping to get a nice tax return and get some nice plastic caging!!! But after hearing the outrageous shipping prices to get anything nice to Canada, I decided to save a few bucks and make my own enclosures. I modified some plans I printed off a while back from another forum and modified it to my specs.

Altogether with materials, lights, thermostat, paint heat and glass about 90$ per cage

It was definatly a long and labourous task too with more than 3 weekend going into the project, but well worth the time in my opinion!
Let me know what you all think!!!
