Timber Rattlesnakes

rtbufoto Jun 30, 2008 09:57 AM

I am aware of the laws regarding Timber Rattlesnakes. However, for those of us getting a proper permit, does anyone know of a legal source or breeder for timbers?
Thanks!

It's going to depend on what state you live in.

They are available on the kingsnake classifieds from time to time.

Either listed as Timbers, or Canebreak rattlesnakes

If you can make it to the show in Columbia SC in November, they practically give them away there.I've seen beautiful specimens sell for $15.00 to $20.00 and neonates for $5.00.They'll be WC, but even nice CB will be under $50.00.Marty

If he lives in a state where timber's are protected, illegal to keep, and require a permit, it's not as easy as just going to a show or looking in the classified's to purchase one. There can be alot of red tape for animals that fall under the Lacey Act.

True, but all he asked for was a legal source. The Columbia,SC show is a legal source.Getting it home legally and keeping it legally is another issue he should have resolved before he starts looking for the animal. Marty

Umm, no. Pending on what state he live in, Columbia isn't a legal source. There are states that require you to have a specific breeder that can prove the animal is captive bred.
NY is a prime example. Endangered species permits require you to have legal, documented breeders from whom you will be buying the snakes from.

Like I said, he should have all that worked out before hand. Then he wouldn't have to ask.
