schetopusik(Ophisaurus apodus)

davidd Sep 02, 2003 01:42 PM

Hey all, there wasn't a forum dedicated to any of the ophisaurus species, so I thought i'd try here first.. I've searched the web up and down and can't seem to find any of these guys captive bred.. Is this because nobody breeds them in the U.S. or just no advertisement? If anybody has information on aquiring a juvenile, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

David

Unfortunately, I do not know of anyone who is breeding Skeltopusik lizards. I believe that because they are so new to the hobby, no one has been able to breed them yet. I own an adult (male?) of this species, and there are a few places that you can buy these lizards, but I have only seen them offered as adults. Are you interested in one as a pet? If so, it is not terribly difficult to find a docile adult that would make a very nice pet. I have not heard of any aggressive individuals, even though they are wild caught. My Boris never bites and he tolerates handling very well. The only threat that he ever displays is a hiss if I startle him with my hand, but he never shows aggression. Good luck!
