too bad this one died........

wisema2297 Jun 30, 2008 11:39 PM

This was from a hypo miami X lavender het hypo.

Check out the reduced pattern (or is it an enlarged pattern?) on this hatchling. This one pipped on it’s own 4 days ago but never emerged. Nor did I ever see it’s head poking out either. I removed it today and as I feared it was already dead.

This pattern would have been awesome to raise up and selectively breed for!!

very little belly checkering as well.

Wow!,...that IS too bad. I certainly agree that it's pattern was "THE BOMB"!!!!......geeeesh!!, why did it have to be THAT one?????

Well,....you still have some great stuff happening, regardless of that bum deal!

Everyone - that type of pattern anomaly is COMMON in ones that don't develop properly. Trust me - if it would have been a healthy neonate, it would have had a normal pattern.

When you have a screwed up pattern and a snake that didn't develop correctly, the pattern is due to the developmental problem. It is NOT just a coi8ncidence. We hatch a few undeveloped/deformed babies like that each year - and their pattern is almost always reminiscent of that one.

The one that doesn't make it is ALWAYS the odd one that SHOULD have survive to the novice breeder - but the odd pattern is almost always due to the fact that it didn't develop properly./ I'm sorry your baby didn't make it, but that pattern wasn't anything special that you could have developed. The loss of any hatchling is upsetting, but don't let it bum you out thinking the one that got away was one with the possibility of a new morph.

you know, I got a motley this year that has cubes like that. Not quite as long, but still kinda neat anyway. I will post pics sometime.
It is a real bummer that yours didn't make it. i have lost at least 2 real neat patterned this year, plus I had a siamese twin.
Better luck next year. Maybe you can breed the same two, or keep some siblings.

Very very unfortunate, I would be at the top of the world if I hatched something like that. Better luck next time.

Thats a real shame he didnt make it, it looks very much like some of the pattern types we produce each year.

Hi KJ,....I've bred lots of different snakes over the years, and found the very faded "ghostly" coloration to be the most common thing that is first noticed. Like you mentioned, many novices will think they have a very special faded "ghost" individual that didn't quite go full term in the egg. I really wasn't aware that that particular pattern was relatively common with corns that didn't pip though.

There's no doubt that you have bred many more corns than I have in the past, so there must certainly be something to what you mentioned..........very interesting indeed!

take care!, ~Doug
