Woo Hoo egg clutch!, now I need advice

dekaybrown Jul 01, 2008 08:05 AM

Recently aquired an eastern milk, thought it was a he?? (no probing or popping, felt no need)

Yesterday I found this under the water bowl..

I just bought a digital probe thermometer, and all the supplies to incubate, what is the ideal temp for a clutch of easterns?

how many days of observation before the miracles of birth?

Thanks in advance,

Wayne A. Harvey

I would go for a happy medium of 80 degrees. Some go as high as 82 which is fine but the good thing about going a little cooler is if you have a temp spike for any reason you have a little more buffer. I've found over the years that if my temps drop for some reason I still have nice healthy babies where as if they spike too high it can be a different story. Good luck and those eggs look nice.

Oh I forgot. I would expect some where in the 60 to just over 70 days before you should expect some little heads popping out.

Thanks Randy!! Since that is the average in the room where I keep my reptiles, were good. I'll still keep that probe in there and monitor it.

I love the colorings on the neonates, too bad they turn brown, not that I have anything against brown, Carmella is a very pretty snake, and so calm for a milk too. But that maroon on cream is awesome.

in a container with a damp substrate. I use garden peatmoss. mix it with a bit of water so its damp not wet and keep it that way by adding a bit of water and stiring it from time to time.Keep a lid on the container to retain moisture.I keep my eggs in the basement snake room where its about 78 - 80 but sometimes drops a little lower.Lower temps may mean longer till the hatch but it may also mean bigger snakes.Bigger babys are easier to get to eat.
