08 extra pied/het clutch #1 5eggs 5 pied

avinagg Jul 01, 2008 08:22 AM

hello to you all, first time poster here. Thought I'd just show and tell you all about my extra white pied success. So.. got myself a really high white pied, extra pied as pictured in the Barkers book "pythons of the world volII, the ball python". I purchased the animal as a female from Taben Exeter, who purchased her! from Africa around 3 years ago. So, and you may have guessed, she after atempting to breed with male albino turned out to be male, happy days. Now the thing that I'm wondering is, of the resulting pied male to het pied female paring, I just hatched 5 pieds of which 2 are not far short of the father. does anyone think that his extra white could in any way be a stronger influence? take a look at the pics and tell me what you think. thanks Glenn C

I am going to guess that the amount of white on a pied is variable -- even with your STUNNING male. He is SWEET!!! Calicos are variable with their white. This sounds like a question for the knower of MANY things genetic Randy Remington. GREAT SNAKE and clutch.

Maybe the "maker upper of wild theories". I haven't hatched pied one yet and don't even have a good theory as to why some have more white than others. I do wonder if it's related to how some hets show and some don't. Maybe the same “random” (aka variable we don’t know about) factor in both.

thanks for the input Guys. I have another two clutches to het girls incubating so may get a better idea once those hatch, just seemed remarkable odds that I got 5 out of 5 and that some exhibit such high white. roll on 5th August that will hopefully help prove it either way.

From what i have heard whether you have a low white or high white it has no influence and what get produced.Another words a ugly pied can produce a high white beauty..

But I understood the question from Glenn was whether the "Xtra" Pied female carries a special gene that other Pieds do not, that say over 3 generations and 15 clutches from HER offspring --and theirs -- produce say mostly 60-90% white. It would be interesting to be able to follow that I think??!!??!!

thanks for the input guys. The xtra pied is the male, the sinopsis is that the pairing has produced all pieds and not the amount of white.with two clutches remaining I'll be interested to see if both of those yield 100% phenotype babies.if they do i will have to assume a stronger or "super" form of this recessive trait.
next two clutches due 5th and 6th August

Did you breed him to any normal females? Perhaps he is a new form of dominant pied.. I know a super long shot but who knows. If your other clutch has all pieds I would definatly try to prove him out..
