When to lower temps?

agirlnamedrita Jul 01, 2008 11:38 AM

I have a six egg clutch in the incubator now...lay date was may 18th...day 60 is the 17th of this month...when should I lower the temps...they are roughly 88-89 now and a lot of movement and when candled you can even see the patterns through the eggs if they are laying close to the shell...I don't wanna mess up now and have them over heat..this is my first clutch and I am so excited...any advice in these last few weeks?

No need at all to drop the temps. What you may WANT to do is make some adjustments to keep the eggs at their current temp. If the thermostat probe is in the egg box, do nothing...the thermostat will keep you right. If the probe is outside the egg box, try to put it inside. If you cant, maybe drop it a degree or two, I suppose (but I never do). The heating effect is more dramatic the larger the clutch. The other thing is to make sure you change the air every couple of days by quickly opening the gg box.
