bloodsrock21 Jul 02, 2008 12:38 AM

Hello everyone My name is Rich I have been keeping all kinds of pythons and Boas for 10 years which Bloods and Balls are my favorite. Along with many variety of Monitors. I love monitors but they take too much space to have a colony of them "grunt". I am new to the breeding process. I have read severa forums about candling the eggs. What exactly is Candle? Thanks for your reply ahead of time.

Holding mini maglite to the egg to check for veins. Veins almost always means fertile. No veins infertile. I don't incubate any egg that doesn't have them. So breeders do. Not every breeder candles. This girl gave me 8 candled fertile eggs that hatched on May 5th. All eight are between 350-450 grams and doing great!!!

... first time breeder. Sometimes it works in your favor!!! The 8 eggs weighed EXACTLY 700 grams. I guess that is an average egg size. Babies were all around 60 grams.

Well I was wondering because fecundity is also related to genetics and not just body weight. Thanks for the info on the weight.

Rich,

I'll post pics after next shed in a week or so. They were my first clutch this season and are looking better with every shed -- they are around 400 grams.
