My Male Beardie isn't active, please help!!!

AmberBeardie Sep 02, 2003 02:43 PM

Hello,
I am reletively new to the board, and have been breeding beardies for about two years now, and never have I come across a case like this. My male, Ramses, Is about 20 inches long, and is in good health (with the exception of an old scar from a burn aquired before I got ahold of him) He eats superworms like there is no tomorrow, and ocassionally eats greens. I have him housed in a 75-gallon reptarium with optimal temperatures, and sand as a substrata. Now, I have never had any problem with having to brumate my males to get them to breed.....and so I haven't brumated him, and I placed my female, Cleo, in with him. He will sometimes initiate the infamous head-bobbing and his beard will turn black, but I have never seen him actually mount her to breed. She, however, is ready and rearing to go...she consastly bobs her head slowly at him, waving her arms. It is so exhasperating!...I don't know what I should do.......:/....he's only a year and a half old....he isn't old and decrepit just yet!........someone please help...any ideas on how to get him to be more active and willing to breed would thoroughly be appreciated!!
Thanks!

Amber

Bearded dragons should go through brumation. At one and a half years old, this should be the first time he goes through brumation and he shouldn't be bred otherwise.
