Bugs on eggs

JasonW Jul 02, 2008 10:06 AM

One of my Corn snakes left me a treat last week in the way of a clutch of eggs, I saw yesterday "trails" in the humidity in the egg container but could not see what was causing them, Today I can clearly see tinny bugs on some of the eggs. any suggestions to get rid of them? Sorry for the cross post but I think this should be taken care of ASAP, thanks.

If they're carrion flys (which look like fruit flies), you'll need to wash the eggs and move them into a new container with new substrate. Your best bet is to use an air tight container to avoid the flies moving to the new incubation area. Use luke warm water and a soft brush to wash the eggs - this will remove the bug eggs from the snake eggs. Do not use too much water when washing, otherwise you'll drown the eggs. Once moved, open the air tight container for a few minutes once every few days to allow the eggs some air circulation.

Ok thank you but one problem, The eggs are clumped together so how would I brush them thoroughly? I have always been to scared to remove eggs that get stuck together. Any tips are great thanks.

Ok tossed out the old containers, filled new air tight containers, washed the eggs with luke warm water and an eye shading brush "very soft bristle" put the in the new containers and now I guess its a waiting game. For good measure I washed out the incubator while I was at it. About how long before I know if it worked or not? a couple days? a week? thanks.
