Looking for a new project.

CFlowers Jul 02, 2008 03:55 PM

Help me I have decided to specialize in only Thyaeri. I am keeping one side project for sure (Black Gap TPRS) but I am looking for one other side project. What is going to hot in 2009-2010... I know some of you are goin to say Brooks but whatelse would make a good side project?
Thanks
Chris Flowers

One project that you might be interested in
is locale and morph Coastal Plains Milks.
It isn't a flooded market. Yeah, they do take
a little work getting started, but what worthwhile
project doesn't? The people that I know that breed
them, pretty much have them sold out of the egg.
They sell for a price that makes all the trouble
worthwhile, yet they aren't priced out of the real
world, like Ball Pythons. Just something to think about.

alterna (grayband kings) are the best thing going and are just going to get batter.Take a look at the grayband classifieds and tell me how many alterna are for sale? and Then I will tell you how many e-mails I get per week for graybands.
They are pretty low producers and are a little work getting them started but they are like gold and if they are screamer generics or pure locale animals even better.I have about 30 eggs cooking and I am pretty sure I won't be posting a single one. They are all sold already.

Another great thing is zonata.Tell me who is selling zonata.I would be breeding the crap out of them if I didn't live in Calif.Best thing going is alterna and zonata and they would fit right in with the thayeri.

Since when do people buy alterna?

It is tough to find them for sale nowadays. The demand is higher than the availability. That is never a bad scenario when considering breeding a species.

How about New Mexico milksnakes? Another great snake with very little availability.

Steve Osborne (Professional Breeders) used to have a pretty good article that he authored on his website, talking about how to choose species to work with. I don't know if it is still there but I would take a look. I thought he made some good points that can help you make half a decision. The first half, I think you have to like what you're working with. The second half is the economic one, how/when/if you'll make money.

I would love to be able to breed elapsoides, temporalis, thayeri and alterna- stuff like that, but I don't do well with small or fussy snakes (learned from experience). So I admire from across the vendor's table, hahaha.

I would keep those BEBs. Those are very cool snakes, plus they will offer something a little different than the others you plan to keep as well.
