My males not getting the job done???

cali_bear86 Jul 02, 2008 11:52 PM

So, one of my males is not getting the job done any more. He only mates when I take him out of his cage and let him and a female run free on the floor. When hes in his cage he spends his time up on his stick or under his log, with no concern to a female whatsoever. He has been a proven breeder once before when he was 8 months old....now he is one year. When i put him on the floor with a female now he will head bob but thats about it. Im wondering if he is ready to go into brumation and thats why he has no interest in breeding, or if he is just a poor breeder. He used to be a very agressive breeder. If you have any ideas please let me know, ive never had this problem

Thanks

You can try housing him separate from females and only introducing them for small periods. That works well for us, they get the job done right there in front of you and you can but her back. I have also noticed that some males will have nothing to do with certain females? try another female. Another factor could be your temperature
my males are more active when i have there temps nice and hot! But all in all it is Lazy Male season in my house!

None of my males mate with any of the females this late in the season. They'll bite their heads but don't mate.
