Need Suggestions

fhayden1 Jul 03, 2008 02:31 PM

I've got a female boa that gave birth about 2 months ago. Since that time she hasn't eaten anything. I'm looking for ideas to get her to eat. I keep her in a freedom breeder jumbo rack with heat panels, although this time a year no supplemental heat is really needed in my garage.

I've force fed a yearling boa before so I have those supplies, however, I prefer not to do this unless it's the last resort. I know this is extremely stressful.

I'm thinking to try chicks, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Any other suggestions are appreciated. I'm planning on taking her to a vet if she doesn't eat soon.

Thanks,Frank

I would take her to the vet and have her given a once over. She could have a retained slug which could keep her from eating. If possible give her a once over yourself and see if anything feels out of the ordinary. Good luck getting her to come around.

Just my opinion stay away from guinea pigs they seem hard to digest. If you can try to get still nursing baby rabbits and feed them live. Depending how large she is you could also try rat pups live. I have found often times baby rodents really trigger a feeding responce. Be very proactive on this I think it strange she is refusing food after having babies.
