Wc Yellow ratsnake.

buddygrout Jul 03, 2008 09:15 PM

I posted a couple of weeks ago about my WC Yellow rat, that cost me 67$ at the vet. Well he finally shed and looks better. He has some more healing to do around his nose, but looks much improved.
Now If I can figure out the multiple posting procedure I'll put a few photos up. Buddy.

That's great Buddy!,.....glad to see it's doing better!

Still hoping to stumble onto a locality mate for this dude!..LOL!

~Doug

Here's a nice female cornsnake I captured as a young yearling only about 100 feet from the Yellow Rat a couple years back. She weighs 485 grams now.

Thanks doyg, It is a shame both of our yellows are male.
If you need a stud for your corn I have a nice okeetee.

Sorry Doug I need to watch what I'm typing. I hit the y instead of the u. I also have a snow male corn. that has bred for the last 5 years.

I have a male exactly the same color, they are the nicer snows with the pink and yellow in them IMO.

Thanks Buddy!,.....but I've been keeping my breeding here to a minimum anyway this season, since I'll probably be moving soon. I don't want to have to mess with too many more hatchlings on top of what I'll already have....I'll have plenty of other problems to worry about!..LOL!.....I'll still be in the exact same area though.

thanks again, and have a good 4th!

Doug,

Due to the lack of any orange pigment in your Yellow Rat snake is it safe to assume there is little to no Everglades influence of any kind ?

Also, are you located in an area that would have little Everglades or Black Rat snake integration ?

That snake would make a great breeding project (IMO) if you where to as you sound like you have planed could find him a locality female that resembles his color and pattern.

I'd buy me a pair of those just because of how pure they (are) look.

Very Classic looking snake!!

That is ABSOLUTELY correct. As a matter of fact, I've talked about this very thing many times to other folks.

From this location(east coast central Florida), there is absolutely no other genetic geneflow from ANY of the other obsoleta complex at all. They are in their purest form in this location, their basically their own little isolated entity in this geographic location. I caught a female about 18-20 years ago onlt a mile or so from where I got this one,.....and it was one of the prettiest I've ever seen in over 40 years of owning snakes.

Certainly, there are going to be a few in the area that aren't quite as exceptional as some, but from the ones I've seen, plus several DOR specimens, this area undoubtedly has some great looking yellow specimens.

best regards, Doug

Hey Doug. I do have a female for you. Maybe we could cross an eastern kingsnake to your yellow ratsnake, or even better, my female Butter Motley cornsnake? I know you'd love that. ..... And if you believe that, I have a San Fransico Gartersnake to sell you, LOL. Have a good 4th of July weekend.

How cool! Was it spotted in Tampa? How big was it? And did ya catch anything?!

jhnscrg Jul 04, 2008 07:34 PM

I'm just guessing, but locality would be southern Florida? That is one NICE snake.
