A lesson for escapes

metalpest Jul 03, 2008 11:23 PM

This was not a king that escaped, but still is a good lesson for those of you with kings which have escaped. I will now be much more careful when anything gets loose and I hope you will do the same!

Went to a reptile show last weekend and my father calls saying the mandarin rat bolted under the fridge as he walked in. I told him not to worry and she would be out later.

He goes about the day trying not to step on the girl. Washes some dishes, turns on the garbage disposal. Does not spin. Can you guess what was in there? Out comes a head, and she bolts down the counter. Luckily, she is safe, and he returns her home. Disposal works again. She must have wrapped around it keeping it from spinning, amazing that she made it out. I am hearing this by phone and he is so frantic that I think she didn't make it.

Anyway, be careful when using things like disposals when you have escapees around! I never would have thought that she made it up the counter and down the sink. Glad she is safe.

That is a scary story, luckily w/ a happy ending. A good cautionary tale. I've had 2 of my 3 Cal Kings escape and both were found on the kitchen counter top by the sink. It's only by the grace of God that neither of the knuckleheads went down into the garbage disposal.
