cockaroachs as a staple for my vieled.

jrbl Sep 02, 2003 03:44 PM

I was wondering if it is okay to change my chameleons staple from crickets to cockaroaches? I have heard people say cockaroaches should not be used as a staple for chameleons, but others cant say enough about them. They just seem easier to breed than crickets, and they seem so have enough meat on them. Another reason it I have alwas had problems with breeding crickets, and they all seem to end up dead. Is there too much chitin in them? Thanks, jrbl

I'm sure there's different answers to this, but I have cut down on cricket feeding drastically. My cham (veiled) get's mostly silkworms and roaches (lobster, orange-headed, discoid). I do think variety is important and still feed crickets occasionally. No matter what it is, how you gutload it is really important. Concentrate on that, and you should be fine, IMO.
