AZraTTled Jul 04, 2008 10:50 AM

I should have asked this before i ordered a couple, but i would like to know others opinions on these cages.I just ordered a couple so do not have them and have never seen anyone else with them. But i do like the way they stack and are constructed,so we will see,i think they will be nice for variable kings. Thanks for your responses

I do not have any personally. But the ones I've seen in person look to be great little tanks. I have debated picking up a few to keep a couple oddities in. Let us know how what ya think of them once you get some hands on time.

Nice cages. I'll list some good points and not as good points, although there is nothing bad about these cages.

Good points:
1. Easy to assemble and disassemble if you have to.

2. These cages are great for heating from above. Suggestion: Order the screen top with the hole in it for a light socket. You can use Vision's light socket or any from any of the dome reflectors sold. For example, I just unscrewed the ceramic socket from a Flukers 5 1/2" dome and it fit exactly into the hole in the Visionarium screen top.

Note: My Visionarium came with the hole already in the screen. Maybe they ship it that way now. They also give you a hole cover that snaps into the hole if you do not use a light.

3. The front sliding doors are nice.

4. Well made and strong. For the money, it is a nice setup and large enough for many snakes.

Other points, not necessarily bad:
1. No litter dam. The plastic floor has about 7/8" of lip. So I recommend a paper product substrate, like newspaper, or the new pelletized recycled paper substrate sold now (neat stuff), or Care Fresh, or dimpled craft paper. Anything else will likely spill into the door tracks.

2. The underside of the plastic floor has ridges. These are great for strength, but block almost any heat pad larger than a mini. So, heat cable is your best bet for undercage heating. That is what I used. Tape it onto the bottom, file a small slot on the back for the heat cable to come out with the cage sitting flush. Works great. You can find heat cable at Big Apple Herp or That Pet Place or LLL or...

3. Humidity does escape through the top. Easy to fix with some plastic wrap over some of the screen, or cardboard or whatever.

The Visionarium does have a small break out "mouse hole"on either side of the bottom so cords and easily be run out either between stacked cages or a single cage when resting on a counter. Also, with the size of the cage a small UTH up to 6 1/2" wide can fit underneath between the ribs but heat cable is fine as well. I wouldn't think any animal would need more than that except for maybe Uromastyx or Beardeds. In that case I would use the basking light as well but only with about a 25 watt or less bulb. We are working on something that will work as a litter dam, but your suggestion of a paper based product is a great solution.

Silly me didn't see the breakout "mousehole" until after reading your post.

I really like your design of the Visionarium. Truly a simple-to-assemble cage that satisfies the logistics of keeping a snake or lizard, and really for a great price.

On the subject of the litter dam, I have adapted well to using paper in my Visionariums, and so have the snakes. For me, a deeper plastic bottom is not really necessary anymore, and it is nice that you are considering a litter dam add-on of some sort for those who may want it.
