I thought some of my friends were Doom and Gloom but really. First of all, I would suggest you both travel to several countries, spend a little time there, then come back and take a hard look at our country. For all the problems such as: a horrible and pointless war, a tanking economy, a president who , well, his record is pretty evident, etal, we are still in a fairly good place, I would say, to be living. Second, this type of republic is kind of an experiment in democracy and unique in history, so stating that "as history proves" is really an unfair statement as there is no precedent to base that on. Broadly speaking, though, all "empires" such as ours is, at least economically,(historically speaking) doomed to fall. I will grant that much about our country is crumbling about us, such as our infrastructure, our economy, our rights being taken away one by one, and more, but saying that our country is going down the tubers is I think over reacting and coming on pretty strong. I am just guessing but maybe , like me, you are simply yearning for the good old days.

Bluerosy Jul 05, 2008 09:42 AM

Howie,

I was referring to this empire crumbling because it wants to take God out of everything. Not "any" god but thee ONE God our founding fathers wrote about in the constitution.

Don't get me wrong. This is still the best country to live in. But right now we are on borrowed time. We should enjoy it while we can.

Happy 5th.

I won't get into a religious discourse on here, but I see you approaching this from a different perspective than the one I was thinking about. Hey we used to believe in many gods, then it became one god. Finally we are getting closer to the correct number.Happy 5th to you too and see you in 47 days.

There has been very few days in my life that i felt more american then when i was at this game. You can see in the pic that the staduim was not packed to the rafters as it usually is.. Many people stayed away either to morn lost loved ones or were in fear of being in a crowded arena at that crazy time here in NY..

This was the first home game at Yankee Stadium after 9/11.. You could still smell the smoldering fires in the air even several miles away at the staduim.. My brother and several other good friends were still digging for possible survivors (and found none)and at that time houses, cars, and the streets were lined with american flags..

Things have changed since then and have returned back to "normal", but the memory of being at this game will stay with me forever..

I am very sad to agree that things are changing for the worse, but I love this country, GOD Bless the USA!

Mike,
I was driving through my neihborhood located just south of Altanta and was trying to count how many American Flags are being displayed. I found not one ( NOT A ONE) after I drove by at least 100 houses.

I guess that people will start to display their flag and beleive in God when another storm comes.

I like the old saying..there are no atheists in foxholes.

To me the second of July is a more important date as that was when all of the members agreed on the wording and passed the declaration. That was the difficult part, getting a bunch of people to agree on something and vote on it. The signing two days later was just a ratification of the work finished on the second.

I think the 3rd of july was even more important than the second as it was the day Jim Morrison departed the planet and "broke on through".

This country isn't going down hill because the government is taking God out of everything. I hate to say it but that is a wedge comment for the weak minded people who think the government is responsible for everything. There is more freedom to worship and pray as one desires here than anywhere else on earth.

It also follows that people here have more freedom to pursue their economic self interest and too many of us simply decide to put superficial desires first and not look around and comprehend the consequences of those choices. To quote a favorite lyricist what we seek to "satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds". That is why you see giant Hummers with “Support The Troops” magna stickers on them.

chris jones Jul 09, 2008 07:00 AM

OK Tony.

Follow that argument to its' logical conclusion.....you're getting close.

If we are putting our own needs and desires before the needs of others, wouldn't that be the result of a ganeration that "knows not God" as the book says? A generation that sows to the wind and reaps the whirlwind?

"Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD."

Leviticus 19:18

Tony D Jul 09, 2008 09:05 AM

Point is Chris it is not the purview of the government to establish God in our lives. If putting God first has any value it would be because one does so voluntarily.

Those who would use wedge comments and issues to suggest that certain officials are more suited for public office are also suggesting that God's Kingdom IS part of this world which is completely contrary to orthodox Christian doctrine. It is also completely counter the evidence. I've never understood how being a man of God went from being a liability for Jimmy Carter to an asset for the current crop cross-wielding chicken hawks.

I completely agree that this country suffers from a lack of spirituality but griping about or blaming it on the government isn't going to change things.

chris jones Jul 11, 2008 08:02 AM

....I agree completely.

It was never the job of the Gov't to mirror christian beliefs and the Gov't (although placed in their positions by God's grace) is contrary to the kingdom of God or the ecclesia.

We cannot expect them to do as they ought.

But...here's a throught. What would happen if they actually were contrite and humble? What if they actually DID ask the LORD for guidance (like our godless president claims he does)?

2 Chronicles 7:14 says it all.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Brandon Osborne Jul 05, 2008 02:09 PM

I didn't really mean it like that Howie. If you look at how things have changed in just the last 10-15 years, it is very different. There is no real patriotism in America anymore. Take a look at Korea's protest to beef imports. That is patriotism.

I have traveled to a few places on the other side of the globe and they aren't as bad as you would think....but maybe it's where I went. How nice would it be to get $1,000,000 from the government on your 18th birthday?!

Again, we live in a great country, but it is quickly losing rank. Prices keep rising and the dollar keeps losing.

See you in Daytona with two beers in your hands.....one for me of course! Anxiously counting the days.

Hey Brandon, You are only going back to changes in the last 10-15 years. Try changes in America since the innocent rock and roll days of the 1950s! I would be more eminently qualified I would think to comment on the changing times. I think we are at a pretty low ebb, but would fall far short of saying that patriotism is just not there anymore. Beer and music, can that be much more American, and that's what we will have down in Daytona. See you soon. Howie

Brandon Osborne Jul 05, 2008 04:22 PM

Not saying it isn't there. It's just not there like it used to be. I'm only going to how drastic things have changed in that time frame. I am sure it has digressed quite a bit since the 50s. I agree, rock and roll and beer...I am with you my brother.

When the only things in life that matters to a huge percentage of the young American population are some big chrome "spinner" rims, some "phat" gold chains, and the hopes to be nothing more than a gold "grilled" rapp star with a large possie a' ho's,.....I think that constitutes a very large problem!,...know what I'm sayin' yo?......that $h!T whack dawg!

OH!,...I'm sorry!,...I almost forgot about the trendy exposed boxer shorts with the pants that fall off every other step!

Those are some wonderful "fashion" statements!

No wonder Rainer's packin' a couple "items" along with his BBQ goodies,...there's a good possibility of his expensive food getting robbed!

I'm sickened by this, and much much more on a daily basis.

Ok, On this I quite agree.Do parents no longer teach values to their kids? I think I answered my own question. By the way Doug, whachoo mean making fun of my wheels?

Bluerosy Jul 06, 2008 09:25 AM

Ok, On this I quite agree.Do parents no longer teach values to their kids? I think I answered my own question.

That is because fathers are absent from their lives. The fathers are usually in prison or doing drugs or with several other woman. In turn the mothers have 6 kids that all have different fathers . Then the governemnt give this mother section 8 housing they live there for 6 montrhs to a year before they get a new and better section 8 house and leave the one they were in , in shambles. This brings down the value of houses in the area that are OWNED by good hard working American citizens.

If you have a solution to this abcess in this country please tell me what it is..??..but please don't tell me taking away the guns will solve the problems of this country. I only see one answer and that is get God back into the families and homes of americans. Do we need another good attack by terrorists to shake us up? Morality is at an all time low in this country and that attacks the core and that is the family. Attack the family and morals and you will have a country tumble ..

Don't forget about all the kids produced from all that free government money selling as much crack, and robbing as many people as possible to be able to pay for the awesome "ride"!!

Nobody on this planet can tell me these elaborate "rides" are payed for by someone working for minimum wage at McDonald's.

Fast money looks to good to these monkeys, and our own TV media is spreading the "CANCER" as fast as humanly possible.......

You can only "teach" values, if you HAVE values!....again the example of "CANCER" spreading from cell to cell!

My blood pressure is rising even as I type this!

This is the countries largest problem!!!!,.....if the festering rotten "cancer" is removed,....the surrounding tissue and organs work fine again!.........same thing with a society. But when the "cancer" becomes large enough in numbers, ...then it becomes...."the squeaky wheel gets the grease"......sound familiar??

Out of the mouths of snake keepers--- comes wisdom for the nation! I love it! Doug, Rainer, Howie, awesome! I live in CA and you get as many wierd looks, crazy opinions and flack from folks for expressing opinions about the dire direction in which this country is heading when studity and decadence are revered as an expression of freedom as you do for telling them you keep snakes. A wiser man than me once said,"You can destroy freedom as much by abusing it as you can by taking it away." That said, GOD BLESS AMERICA! Herp on!
