I have a 6 yr old western female that has not laid eggs after 2 years of witnessed breeding. This year I bred her repeatedly to a proven male and she finally appeared gravid. Wednesday I saw her laying eggs. She laid 15 slugs and 1 that looks good. She continued straining like she had more eggs to lay, but I couldn't feel any. After about 30 minutes, I called the vet, planning on getting her in at once. Unfortunately, she didn't make it. Not sure what the problem was. I had all but given up on her ever laying eggs after the last 2 seasons. Now I wish she hadn't. Hopefully the 1 egg will be OK.

That is unfortunate. My condolences.Onto the possibilities...I would put my money on the male having a low sperm count for whatever reason, because if the eggs were being produced, fertile or not, then she was doing her job. Once again, very sorry to hear of your bad luck.

Don't know what happened. The male produced 13 babies out of 13 eggs last year to this females sister, so I had confidence in him. Even that is a moot point now,as he died Friday. I fed him his usual meal Thursday afternoon, checked on him Thursday evening and all was well. Firday morning I was checking everybody's water and found him coiled up in his hide, dead. It hasn't been a good week for my hogs. I do have a clutch of 12 incubating from the same sister mentioned previously. Wish me luck. The pic is last years clutch.
