Found eggs

rick d Jul 04, 2008 07:50 PM

A friend of mine was cleaning his backyard and had removed a tarp that was covering some siding. His little boy sees a snake and tells dad. Bryan picked up about a 3' Speckled king and underneath "her" was a clutch of 10 eggs! That doesn't happen very often. I have them incubating along with some corn snake eggs from my females.
I once rolled over a railroad tie and about 15 black racer eggs rolled out. They must have been just laid as everyone of them hatched.

I bet in direct sunlight, temps get hotter than we think. Black rail ties can get very hot. A friend of mine has always incubated his colubrid eggs with his burm eggs......at 90 degrees. He's never had a problem.

That's cool. I just removed two clutches of Broadhead skink eggs today from under a tarp. There are 24 eggs total and the females were guarding the nests. Just as my brother pulled the tarp back there was a yearling black (nigra) king feeding on the eggs. I would imaging since the tarp was in direct sunlight nearly all day, temps would be well into the 90s and maybe even in the 100s. The eggs were buried about 6" below the surface and a cypress compost pile. I have them in my incubator right now. We'll see what happens.

Fun stuff.

I bred this type of skink once, the babies look like blue tailed 5 lined skinks. Cute little things. I also bred Fire Skinks as well they also hatch out with the blue tails too.

Definitely cool stuff!!!!!
