Lab Style Rodent Tubs search

RichH Sep 02, 2003 04:23 PM

Grettings, curious to know if there is a source for used laboratory style rodent breeding tubs? I picked a few up a while back at a show. Gave them a test and like them but can not find others available.

Thanks, Rich Hebron

you find maybe 5-10.. fall in love with them.. and can NEVER find more of the same.. :

i had that problem for awhile.. i LOVED my lab cages for my rats.. but when i could never find more than the 8 i had, i had to try something else..

rack systems are the key!

best of luck

Yes, very true. I may need to go to building a rack as all the commercial lines are overkill for our needs. These tubs if I had 10 of each size would work out great though. So easy to use.

I need to either find a place that would focus more on height instead of width in wood as the metal framed are nice but not economical for our needs or build my own.

Are there any links to building rodent racks somewhere?

Thanks, Rich Hebron

Try this site. They had an ad on the cages page a month or so back.

they look like good ones. They may even be a nice alternative to building a rack. Know what I mean?

What I mean is: if I bought a bunch of those, I may not need to build a rack.

thx for posting the link.

and they started it all..

while i liked my lab cages, unless you can find a TON of them at a time.. its not worth the time or the effort. What happens when you drop one and crack it?.. there goes 15-25$ down the toilet..

if i drop one of my tubs for my mice, (its not gonna break) but if it does, it will cost me a whopping $1.25 to replace it

if i break a rat tub, it'll cost me $5 to replace it

all in all.. rack systems are the way to go.. even for small colonies of animals

$5 per rat tub, huh? Hmmmm. . . That sounds real good. I guess I will take the next few weeks and think it over and decide if I am going to go for the rack or the lab tubs. I will go to Lowes and see if I can find the tubs for $5.

You are talking about the cement mixing tubs, no?

I do like building. I had fun building my snake rack and probably would have fun building the rat rack as well.

Can you give me some more info on the tubs? (I will also read down further. I am sure it has been mentioned already in earlier posts. However, if you don't mind the repetition, I would really appreciate it).

I will start drawing some plans for the rat rack and price the materials.

Here is a thinking out loud material list:

wire cloth mesh: ~$10.
wood: ~$10.
watering system from agloslest.com for six tubs ~$20.
Tubs: ~$30

So, about $70 to $80 for the rack.

five lab tubs @ $15 each would be $75.

pretty comparable prices. Each has its advantages. I will think it over.

Sincerely. Longtang

Thanks, for the Link and Rob is the guy I purchased the mice racks from originally. I have sent an e-mail as well as placed a call to him but have not yet heard back on these rat tubs.
