Has anyone ever seen or heard of red phase DIs(D. dorsalis)? I saw a picture of a reddish one in a book. I wonder what locale they're from.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of red phase DIs(D. dorsalis)? I saw a picture of a reddish one in a book. I wonder what locale they're from.
I don't know if they are a separate morph, but my male is clearly more red than my two females that are the silver/white, and that incredible sheen in the heat. I thought that my male was gearing up for a shed, but he has stayed kinda red. I'll try to get pics later.
locales where the chain pattern on the animals are a nice rust color. Those are by far the nicest I think. Some locales in southwest AZ but can't remmber exactly where.
I agree with you. This one in the pic looks really nice, and if there's more like it, then they would be nicest bunch.
I thought the picture in the book was taken somewhere in AZ, and I was thinking maybe NW or northern central AZ, but you said SW AZ, hmmm. Do you remember what county?
I'm going to AZ soon. I'll difinitely be on the look out for them and have my cam ready. Thanx
Well, scratch my last post. My boy has silver limbs this morning so he is obviously still shedding.
Can you post that pic that you saw?
I could probably take a picture of it and post it for educational purposes. I'll post it soon.
I took a snapshot of a the picture a was talking about. I really like this color on a dipso. My other favorite color on a DI is the whitish one, but that's another topic.
Nice dipso, isn't it?

Yes, that is a beautiful color. What color is the "sheen" in the sun? Mine are normally silver with brownish spots until they get totally warmed up under the MVB, and then they have a very bright white sheen. Has anyone seen one of these reds in full sun?
I remember seeing specimens in San Felipe, Baja that exhibited a greater amount of reddish coloration that those I've seen in the states.

The Desert Museum in Tucson has a pretty red morph. Personally, I prefer the nearly pure white phase. There was a nice patch of land that we used to find DIs so white they even stood out on the white sand. Unfortunately, the Indians wiped them out for their casino. Don't believe all that crap about Indians being one with nature. I know 1.000s of DI's that would disagree.
