HEY GUYS,

I'M A NEWBIE AND WAS WONDERING IF ,DUCKIE, IS BIG BONED OR JUST FAT?? HE MEASURES ABOUT 9.5" IN LENGTH GIVE OR TAKE. HE EATS 3 SUPERWORMS DUSTED WITH CALCIUM EVERY OTHER DAY AND IS ACTIVE. HE POOPS & PEES WELL, SHEDS EASILY TOO.

HIS TAIL IS REALLY FAT AND HIS BELLY ID ROUNDED. COMPARED TO THE OTHER PICS I'VE SEEN OF LEOPARD GECKOS, HIS IS REALLY FAT!! IS THE NOTION " THE BIGGER THE TAIL THE BETTER" TRUE? HIS EYES ARE CLEAR AND BRIGHT AND HE EATS WELL.

I'M JUST WORRIED, ALSO, IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FAT TAILED GECKOS AND LEOPARD GECKOS?

Your picture didn't work, so it's hard to say anything definitively. Try putting it in the kingsnake gallery and post it again from there. Bigger tails are better...to a point. It is possible for them to be obese, and that's no better for them than it is for you.

Ah, well, best of luck fixing your keyboard then. As to your gecko, he does look a bit on the chubby side to me; you might try reducing feedings to every third day and see if that makes a difference.

For reference, here's a pic of my gecko sleeping in the sun (weird, I know, but hey, who am I to tell her she's doing it wrong?) at a more "healthy" weight - she could stand to gain a bit in this pic, but she's far from "too skinny." Ideally she'd have just a tiny bit fatter tail, but not by much.

she's always outside of her hide with the legs back. kinda looks like shes swimming. got a funny pic of her leg up in the food dish one day. also does your;s like to prop its head up? thats another trick nibbles does. so funny to see.

I have four two guys and two girls they all lay out.... they just aren't shy i guess and feel at home... they come to my hand when i put it in there too i'd say they just feel relaxed!

She used to, but I haven't seen her sleep with her head propped up on something for quite a while now. I've seen her sleep in/on her water bowl with her head propped up on it before, though - sometimes they're just weird. Saw one in a pet store once sleeping basically hanging from its neck - it had crawled up into a crevice in its enclosure and looked like it was anchored there by its chin! I'm sure it was dreaming happy gecko dreams, but it sure looked uncomfortable to me.

haha i have two coconuts in my enclosure...one of the females always sleeps with her tail up along side of the one...her body on the enclosure floor...and her head up on the other one...she looks like a speckled banana. or she wedges herself between her humid hide and the glass...i'll take pics next time she does both it's pretty funny looking
