Another question...

Hollychan Jul 05, 2008 09:46 AM

Okay, when I was discussing with my mother the problem I was having with gnats in my natural terrariums, she said she used to break off a little chunk of one of my grandfather's cigars, soak it in water overnight, making a tobacco tea, then water the plants with the tea, which would kill or drive off the gnats. I'm wondering if this might work in my terrariums, but of course the big question, would "tobacco tea" hurt my snakes? I would NOT get any of it in their actual water bowls, just water the plants with it. I would never do it in a lizard or amphibian's tank, since their skin is more permeable than a snake. But what do you guys think?

Holly, I never heard of tobacco to repel gnats.

Last year I had a problem in one enclosure, I placed a fly glue trap on the cover facing down dead center, where my snake could not get at it, within a day the bugs were all stuck on the fly paper.

Wayne
