A girl's gotta eat

the4thmonkey Jul 05, 2008 11:17 AM

and Celeste can't wait for me to empty the crickets from the dusting cup and just jumps in to help herself. They all KNOW what that cup means and run to the front of the Collared Condo to watch me prepare and dispense their meals.

Hanging around hoping for a meal is Snicket. Her clutch hatched on July 3rd and 4th.

How adorable!

Those are some mighty colorful girls you got there, Valerie!

They are both southeastern Utah girls, captured for me by Oldcrota.

That's really funny! Does she always hop up on you at mealtime?

She doesn't always, but she or another of the girls will frequently grab crickets that are clinging to the edge of the cup instead of waiting for them to fall. Sometime they try and get them through the sides or end of the cup -- they can see them moving in there but can't figure out how to get to them. The crickets are in a cabinet under their terrarium, and they come to the front and watch me get out the cricket keeper; shake them into the cup, etc. Sometimes they are banging the glass trying to get at them before I can even open it. They will often take food from my fingers, especially worms. Hoboken tends to hang back and snags the few crickets that manage to escape the girls' feeding frenzy.
