I am just wondering how much to really feed my cham. He is about 4 months old and recently I got 1/3 inch crixs he has already eaten like 15 today if not a few more... and he still seems hungary. He is climbing on the bowl that I usually have the food in looking for crix. I do not want him to starve but I do not want to over feed him either.... what do yall think???

What kind of cham do you have? My Veiled LOVES to eat her ficus leaves and romane lettuce. But as for feeding, your chameleon will not continue to eat till he/she explodes. So don't worry about over feeding them. The 1/3 inch crickets are quite small, so most likely your cham can eat a lot of them. I let my girl eat until she is full, which is usually around 15-18 1 inch crickets a day. yeah...she's a lil'piggy... Try giving him crickets untill he/she leaves some in his/her cup, then you can estimate how much to feed her a day.
Hope this help

Thanks guys!!! My cham is a veiled... I just worry about him since it is my first one. I just did not want to over feed him after reading the stuff on the bone disease but he looks healthy and I even think hes getting ready to shed soon. but thank you for your help

Is this a veiled? They will eat as long as there is food around and at this age that's fine. Veileds do eat some plant material so he may be testing things to find what he will like. You could try offering him bits of fresh fruit or leafy greens on twigs or by tying them to the cage with twist ties. Don't offer insects that are longer than his head is wide, make sure they are gutloaded well (fresh leafy greens, fruit, fortified cereal grains) and let him eat. After he's about 8 months old you should start cutting back to every other day. He's a good weight if his tailbase cross section is oval from top to bottom. Completely round is too fat.

you should take a look at my website, i have a detail section on feeding giving the proper amounts at what age. the more you feed them, the faster they will grow, which will lead to problems like metabolic bone disease. just feeding them until they stop eating is the wrong way to do it. if you want to know if your cham is being overfed, take a stool sample and place it in a little bit of water. if you can see any parts of crickets, like whole legs or things like that, you are overfeeding. overfeeding leads to many problems, it's better to feed them smaller amounts and let them grow slowly over time.
