Ball Gurgling

skenjovi Jul 06, 2008 11:01 AM

My ball python started opening his mouth and making a gurgling sound and acting like he was throwing up while Deficating. I don't know if the gurgling sound was from the defication, or from his mouth. By the time I got to the cage, he was done going but still looked like he was throwing up or needed to throw up. Is this normal? Please Advise...

take it to the vet--- it shouldn't be gurgling out of either end... it could have the runs from a bad rat/mouse.... but if it was opening its mouth while pooping.... thats some poop....

take it to the vet...

Did this come out of nowhere? When did you feed the snake last? Has he had mucus or bubbles coming from his mouth in the 12 hours leading up to this? What are the temperatures in the cage? You need to be careful if it very hot already outside and in the room the snake is in and then you have a 100watt bulb or flexwatt strip adding heat on top of this.... You need to watch that they do not overheat Also, if the water dish is right below the bulb or on top of the flexwatt, their water can heat up to 100plus degrees and this cant be good. I cant say if this maybe is part of the cause of your situation or not. Please give some background and the current setup and situation and maybe this will explain what might be going on. He may have a respitory infection

His cage stays between 80-90 Degrees F on the hot side. I mist the cage twice a day under the light. She last ate, last Sunday. I'm not sure, but she may have a respitory infection. I don't know, I'll have to take her to a Vet.

The vet trip and meds for one snake shouldn't run you over $100.... well worth the expense to make sure she's healthy..

I've seen this before, while Balls were defacating! The gurgling is actually their stomach/digestive track! Mine went back to normal behavior and have been fine since! Sometimes they'll actually "fart" while defacating!
