I hope you didn't throw out the "slug" because I don't see one in that pic. slugs are smaller and are YELLOW normally. If you are going by candleing it can be difficult to see veins for the first few days. Either way, congrats on the clutch.

No I didnt throw it out just for that reason! It doesnt have any veins but I figured it couldnt hurt to try and let it go! We will see in a couple days. Hopefully they are all good!!
All I can say is that I have yet to have a egg that candled without veins develop veins later , I also set them aside just in case but so far have always ended up with a bad egg with no embryo inside.. I think eggs with very faint veins also are likely to go bad in 10 days or less, again I set ones with "weak veins" off to the side and watch them just to be sure, it just seems that you can tell with little effort which are bad from the start.. Never hurts to give them a chance but don't be shocked if your gut instinct is right and it eventually goes bad if it has weak veins or no veins from day one.. Anthony McCain..
I've always had 100% bad luck with what you termed "weak vein" eggs. My hypothesis for them was that those cases might be a fertile embryo and unfertilzed egg shelled together, with the unfertile egg spoiling the good one. Anyway, this year, I had two such eggs in the same clutch, and here we are neary 50 days in and still going strong....
